Roof Top Film Festival

The roof top film festival was held at my house on the 24th of March, 2007. Ganesh came up with the idea of having an all night screening of movies on the roof of a house. To find out more about the event check out the event wiki.

The first participants started arriving at 7pm on Saturday night. Waiting for everyone to arrive provided an opportunity for us to meet each other. Red Bull was distributed for free, with some thanks to Dinesh for making this possible. We had a pretty good turnout of about 25 to 30 people. Some even came all the way from Trichy. A whole bunch of people from The Knowledge Foundation also turned up.

We had put some mattresses on the floor so that everyone could make themselves comfortable.

After screening each movie, we had a short discussion about the movie. This was one of the best parts of the event. Everyone was involved and engrossed in the discussions.

Sudhish Kamath, an independent film maker was one of the participants. We watched his film, The Four Letter Word, as the final film.

He explained his thought process for various scenes in the film.

As dawn broke, he took some time out to show us previous unedited versions of the movie. By that time, a few had gone to sleep on the comfortable mattresses.

.........zzzzzzz..........

Those who hung around till 7am on Sunday morning got a group photo for their troubles :) Thanks to all the participants for making this possible. No spectators, only participants was the motto, and in this event everyone was truly a participant.

The final list of movies were Hard Candy, Call Center (Short), Blood Simple, America America (Short), Hi Dad (Short), Annie Hall, That Four Letter Word.

Thanks to Ramanujam for arranging the mattresses, Suresh and Kiran for more mattresses, Bhargav for the speakers, Dinesh for the Red Bull, Suraksha for the projector, Syed for the screen, and all the participants for bringing food, staying up, and taking part in the discussions.

All in all, it went really well, way beyond my expectations. Now, when is the next one?
